PAINFUL END OF A ROMANCE.

A YOUNG MAN COMMITS SUICIDE,

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELKGRAM.) WELLINGTON, April 27. The police have received information that Herbert) Edmonds, schoolmaster at Paringa, in the Lower Wairarapa, shot himself at 7 a. in. No reason is assigned.

The death of Edmonds ia the painful end of a romance which began in St. Peter's Church a few days ago. Then, aa telegraphed, his bride refused at the altar to marry him, but was persuaded to become his wife next morning. That day they left for Piritioa, about ten milee from Martinborongh. . A passenger, who was in the train, says that the girl refused to speaii to her husband all the way, and before the journey's end was reached she gave him the slip and disappeared. It is said she is now in Melbourne. Edmonds was only twenty-seven years of age, and of a bright, cheery disposition, and not at all the kind of man likely to commit suicide, but doubtless his temper was soured and his life embittered by the events of the last few days. JLateb. Mrs Edmonds, it appears, did not go to Australia as reported, but returned to her father, with whom she stayed till this week, when she-went back once more to her husband. She herself telegraphed the tragic news to her father ; but nothing more than the bare fact of the auieide is at present known. •
