A LUNATIC AT LARGE.
The antics of a lunatic caused considerable amusement iv town on Saturday. Tho man, whose name is Allan, was recently 'arrested upon a charge of lunacy by Constable P itz* gerald, but after being medically examiued was discharged. Ou Saturday morning Allen went into Warnes* restaurant and demanded £5 and costs, saying, "I'm a police constable but I'm in plain clothe.." After being ejected he went into several shops and made demands for money, &o. Last of all he found his way to Morrow, Bassett's, where in loud . tones hf demanded to be supplied with a buggy, and harness, "as he had just purchased i. magnificent horse at Mataon's." The man carried on in Buch a way that the police were communicated with. Constable Koster soon arrived and took Allen into custody. He waß brought to the Police Station, and a charge of lunacy re-entered - against him. Drs. Irving and Jenniug* subsequently examined the man, and upon their certificates he was committed to the Asylum in the afternoon. During his examination at the cells Allen attacked Constable Bailey severely injuring one of , that officer's hands in the struggle.
