RANGIORA.
The final meeting of the Rangiora Licensing Committee was held at noon yesterday. Present—Captain A. Parsons (Chairman), G. J. Leech, W. Buss, C. G. King, aud A. Ivory. The police report gave a satisfactory account of the condition of the hotels and that they wore excellently conducted. A telegram from. Mr H. C. Bailey, licensee of the Plough Inn, from Timaru, apologising iov absence, was received. Mr M. Scott, i Junction, and Mr G. Pain, Club, were present. Constable Costin said Mr J. Murray, Red Lion, wished to be excused, being engaged in a cricket match. A transfer of license Junction Hotel, from W. A. Taylor, to R. Scott was granted. The Chairman said this was his laßt appearance in this capacity, and he understood none of the Committee would seek election on the new Committee. He was glad that so long as he had held office no complaints had required endorsement of licence, and he hoped the Committee following would be able to have a like pleasant experience. It was expected there would be a big contest for the election, but he hoped those elected would be able to - make matters work smoothly, and their proceedings would be an amicable record. Mr Leech said he considered the proceedings should terminate like other important bodies, and he had pleasure in moving a vote of thanks to the Chairman for ably presiding, and his care in seeing that all business of the Committee received due attention. Mr Ivory, as one of the continuous committee since the 1881 Act came in, seconded. He regretted there was not a good attendance of all the licensees at the final meeting. Mr Buss endorsed the complimentary remarks, and the Chairman having briefly expressed his thanks, the meeting terminated.
