CHRISTCHURCH DOMAIN BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Domain Board was held yesterday at noon. Present—Mr H. P. Murray-Aynsfey (Chairman), Sir John Hall, the Mayors of Chrotchurch, Sydenham and St. Albane, Hon. C. C. Bowen, and Mr Harman. The report of the head .gardener was read, calling attention to the fact that the fences were decaying, and required a good deal of attention. They had. had notices printed with reference to the enforcement of the by-law relating to dogs. At the entrance to the grounds eighteen boards h»d been placed, calling attention to the bylaw. A number of beautiful ash trees had been damaged in the walks facing the river and the Fendalton aide. This was a species of vandalism which ought to be put a stop to. ' ~. . . I , ''. " The Acting Seqjsisxary submitted the annual accounts of,the Board duty audited by Mr King. ■. The accounts were received. "■',-: The Chairman said that he would suggest that a Committee should be appointed to view the trees in the Domain now that they were in fall foliage, so that it might be decided which could be beat removed. The avenue on Antigua street wanted looking to, as the trees were growing too close. Accounts to the amount of £114 5s 6d were passed for payment. The next business was the election of Chairman. Mr Harman moved—" That Mr H. P. Murray-Ayusley be re-elected as Chairman of the Board." He thought the public were greatly indebted to the zeal and interest displayed by the Chairman in the discharge ot his duties. The Mayor of St. Albans seconded the motion, which was carried. The following were appointed as an Executive Committee : — Tne Chairman, Hon. C. C. Bowen, the Mayor of Sydenham, and Mr Harman. The Board then proceeded to deal with the applications for the Secretaryship, and the Board went into Committee. There wert. ten applicants, and Mr S. D. Barker was unanimously elected. It was resolved that the Secretary be instructed to write to the lessee of the South Park with reference to the growth of the thistles contrary to the provision of his lease. With reference to the destruction of the ash trees reported by the Head Gardener, The Mayor of Christchitroh moved— " That a reward of £1 be offered for information leading to the conviction of any offender or offenders ringing, barking, or otherwise destroying tr< 63." Hon. C. C. Bowes seconded the motion, which was carried. It was also agreed that notices to the effect be posted on the notice boards on the Park. . Mr Harman brought under the notice of the Board the prevalence of bathing on Sundays close to the footpath, opposite Mr Geo. Gould's, at Fendalton, near the bridge. It was resolved to call the attention of the police to the matter. Sir John TTi|r.T. moved—" That in view of the financial position of the Board, the Executive Commiltee be requested to take steps to reduce the expenditure daring the year by £35.' Hon. C. C. BowEsr seconded the motion, which was carried. . ' The Board then adjourned.
