The Resident Magistiate's Court business transacted here daring the past month has been exceptional, the number of cases dealt with being greater than on any previous month. They mounted up to 345 civil and 258 criminal cases. , .
The Hon. Mr McMillan, ex Treasurer of New South Wales, ie $t the present time on a visit to this city, and will stay here a fewdays. ■ The Registrar of Electors here ; has filed affidavits in connection with Sir R. Stout's petition,' Betting .forth the which copie3 of petition reached 'hinv—January 9th—and also stating that it was impossible during his absence from Wellington at Christmas time for anyone to communicate with him.
