rose -was first, past tbe post in the Flying but was protested against because her reputed owner was on the forfeit list. The matter was referred to the Metropolitan Club and an affirmative reply being received the stake was awarded to Mountain Maid. At the cycling sports to-morrow aa effort will be made to lower the ten mile record. The Mayor, Mr Fish, is very irate with the Justice Department for not giving information re the licensing elections though he has repeatedly telegraphed for it. He appeals to "the Premier to interfere, and suggests that the Parliamentary Returning Officers should be appointed, and the electoral rolls be placed at the disposal of the local bodies with the free use of all necessary sen.oolhouses.
