MISS BARRATT'S SCHOOL.
The annual concert and distribution of ' prizes in connection with Miss Barratt.chool, Cameron street, Ashburton, took place on Friday, in the presence of a number of the parents and friends. Work done during tbe year was displayed round the room aud reflected great credit on the children, as well as on Miss Barratt and her assistant, Miss Fooks. Mrs T. A. Hamilton, who judged the needlework, spoke very highly of it, and had much difficulty in awarding the prizes. A programme of vocal and instrumental music was nicely rendered by the scholars, and at the request of Miss Barratt. Mr E. J. JPaul, after addressing* a few words of kiridly encouragement' to the children, distributed the prizes as follows:— Class L—Violet. Kelly 1, Lottie Fooks 2, Violet Simpson 3. Class lI.—X. Baxter 1, Lucy Kempthorne 2. Cla-*a lll.—Viola Paul 1, Nora Simpson 2. Class IV.—L. Purneli 1_ W. Home 2. Class V.—Dora Stephenson 1, Laura Beach 2. Class VI. -May White 1, Mabel Berry man 2. Class VII.—C. Beach 1, Z. Ferriman 2. Sewing—Class I.—Mary Digby 1, Lottie Fooks 2, Violet Simpson^special prize. Class IL—Dora Stevenson 1, Emily Williams 2. Good conduct, Annie Ferriman and R. Baxter; grammar, C. Segers; writing, Mary Digby; reading, H. Fooks; spelling, Lucy Kelly; writing, Emily Williams; arithmetic, Dora Bland; singing, Bella Bryant; industry, M. Segers and O. Digby; punctuality, Nina Reid.
