ASHBURTON BOROUGH SCHOOLS.
The distribution of prizes in connection with tbe Ashburton Borough Schools took place in Sc Stephen's schoolroom on Friday evening. After a pro-gramme of music had been nicely gone through by the scholars, Mr B. S. Bean, Chairman of the Committee, addressed the children, and asked the Rev. T. A. Hamilton to distribute the prizes. Mr Hamilton having addressed those present, distributed the prizis as follows:— Standard Vll.—Edith Ada Bell (dux), J. Baxter, Lila Baxter, Minnie Warner. Standard VL—Ada Tucker. Au exhibition of school ana home work was held in the Borough School on Thurs- • •:.<y. The articles shown comprised plain •-Hit fancy needlework, drawings, paintings, haudwriting. collections of insects, mineral!-, New Zealand woods, birds* eggs, carpenters' and joiners' work, collections of ferns, fret work, inlaid work, and a great variety of other useful accomplishments. The exhibition was the second which has been held in connection with the school, and it was pleasing to note the very marked improvement in the quality of the work generally, and the exhibition was regarded as a great success. A number of good prizes were given, and when Mr R. S. Bean (the Chairman of the School Committee) formally declared the exhibition do .ea at nine o'clock, he announced to the children that another would take place about Easter.
