MAGISTERIAL.
CHRISTCHTJRCR. Thursday, December 28. (Before H. W. Bishop, Esq., R.M.) Alleged Larceny.—Annie McCarthy was charged, on remand, with having, on or about September 15th, stolen an apron, value 2_ 3d, the property of Mary Sullivan, and, on or about November 24tb, a towel, value Is 3d, the property of F. J. Fuchs, from the Wellington Hotel. She was further charged with having, on or about December 13th, stolen from the British Hotel, Lyttelton, a cape value 15s, the property of Constance- Kiddey. Mr Loughrey appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty. Mr Loughrey applied for au adjournment on. the grounds that the accused had been ill in tiie Hospital since the day of her arrest, and there had been no time to get up tb.B defence. SergeantMajor Mason opposed the adjournment. His Worship decided to ..djourn the case till noon. On resuming it appeared that the accused had been employed at the places named as barmaid and waitress, and the articles having been missed on her leaving, were found in her possession afterwards. After hearing evidence the-Magistrate said he thouglit the cases had been proved, but considering her previous good character and the fact that she had been i„ during her arrest, he would deal lightly with her by only ordering a conviction to be entered up against her. She was then discharged.
