FATHER BRIAND AT HALSWELL.

As to the statement that Father Briand desired his advice to the congregation to be kept secret. I was present in the Halswell Church, and I declare emphatically that Mr O'Callaghah's statement is absolutely untrue. Again, in the Times Electoral Notes appears a statement, on the authority of a Correspondent, in whom they are able "to place implicit confidence," to the effect-that Father Briand spoke aa follows :—" In this district (Riccarton), Mr Boag was the only candidate who would support the Catholic claims, and do justice to Catholic schools; and ther.fore they, as a family, were bound to vote for Mr Boag, Sec, tc" This also is absolutely untrue. • • - (Signed) William Meaxikg, Halswell.
