THE CATHOLIC VOTE.
TO THE ED—OB OP THE PRESS. Sir,—ln your issue of thia morning—and also in the Lyttelton Times —appeared a letter on the above subject, signed John O'Callaghan, Fendalton. Ia his letter to ths Times he simply states the fact that Mr E. O'Connor had informed him that the Catholics of Riccarton won't vote for Mr Boag. The letter to the Press, however, contained an addition, to the effect that, at the Halswell Catholic church, yesterday, the Rev. Father Briand told the congregation they were to vote for Mr Boag, but were not to let the fact of his instructions be known and were to keep it as secret as possible. In this latter clause lies the sting of the letter—it is intended to meet the eyes of Mr Boag's Protestant supporters—who were more likely to s*e the letter in the Press than in the Tj"ro«—and to prejudice him in their eyes. The fact Of this advice having been given by Father Briand may be true or may not — so far wo have only the authority of Mr J. O'Callaghan.—l am, &_., Michajel S. Camp_— _
