NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
The Superintendent of the Lytfcelton Sailors' Home acknowledges with thanks the receipt of a parcel of illustrated Home papers from Mr P, Cunningham. Yesterday afternoon, at .the Tuam street Hall, the Mayor of Christchurch addressed a meeting of ladies. The speaker dealt with the mode of conducting the ballot and the plan of voting. He also pointed out what seemed to him a glaring inconsistency, viz., that the Women's Christian Temperancs Union were anxious to get Sir Robert Stout to stand for Christchurch when they knew that gentleman was a mast pronounced Freethinker. The Mayor appealed to all ladies to register, and stated that he would be at the Council Chambers from 9.30 to 11 each morning, and the Mayoress from 2 till 3.30 each day, in order to register votes of ladies and gentlemen. He also invited ladies to join a Committee to be formed this afternoon, at 3 p.m., at the Tuam street Hall.
Entries for the Christ's College Old Boys' race will be received by any of the Committee up till October 6th.
The annual general meeting of the Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club will be held at St. Michael's Schoolroom this evening at eight o'clock.
The annual meeting of the Sydenham Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club will be held at the Chess Club rooms to-night at eight o'clock.
The entries for the annual Horse Parade, under the auspices of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which takes place on the new Show grounds on Saturday next, close to-morrow. The usual sales by auction will follow the parade.
