WELLINGTON NOTES.
September 24. The Council of the New Zoaland Sur. veyors' Institute are urging the SurveyorGeneral to give effect to a resolution passed at a Conference of surveyors held in Melbourne, at which the New Zealand delegate agrasd that candidates for membership of the Institute should, if successful in passing a rigid examination, be granted a certificate which would be a credential throughout Australasia ; legislation will be necessary to effect this. The Welch family football team, a combination contributed toby seven families of that name, who are settlers scattered fram Wellington to Wairarapa, played a Weliiugton Club team yesterday, out were beaten by 33 points to 3. The game waa a novel one, aud cries of '• Go it Tom," " Dick "or " Harry," " Go it family " were amusing. The Wellington Rugby Union are asking the Nelson Union to prefer charges against the members of the Wellington representative, team alleged to have played abominably and brutally in the recent match against Nelson, or else refute statements to that effect published in two Nelson papers. . A Betail Drapers' Cricket Association is being formed here, and drapers particularly are sticking weil to the Wednesday halfholiday matches.
