ASHBURTON HORSE PARADE.
The annual horse parade, under the auspices of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was held in Mona square, at noon, on Saturday. The attendance of horse-owners and the general public was quite up to that of previous years, and the day being beautifully fine the horses were seen to the best advantage Out of the twenty entered k nineteen put in an appearance. Amongst the niue draught horses paraded were the old champion prizetaker Kelvin, a horse which always attracts a lot of favourable comment. Ho has wintered well, and was brought on the ground in nice condition. In Vanquisher and Lord Cranley Mr John Small haa two good ones, both being handsome, powerfully made horses, with plenty of good bone, and each showiug undeniable quality. Mr F. M. Rickman's Protection is another horse of a rare good stamp, with plenty of size, a good set of legs, and showing a lot of quality. The well known Awamoa was looking well, as was also that very useful stamp of a farmer's horse Emperor. Amongst tue others paraded were Prince Imperial, Fingall and Argyle. Thoroughbredswere represented by Young Cheviot, Lord Hopetoun, Yonng Hunnington and Smith O'Brien. The Messrs Alexander had Young Cheviot, looking in the very pink of condition, and as this handsome horse moved round he was much admired. L. Markey had Smith O'Brien looking very fit, and this promising son of Johnny Falkner is aheady promised a good season.
Under the heading of roadsters or carriage horses, there were Boomerang, ilambrino Mac) San Francisco, General Tracey, Silchester and Blackwood Abdallali. Mr Donald McLean had Mainbrino Mac. a handsome six-year-old son of Berlin, looking uncommonly well. Next in order came what was one of the very best advertisements a sire could possibly have on a parade ground. This was Mr G. A. M. Buckley's San Francisco, a remarkably well grown colt, by Mambrino Mac, out of Patience. San Francisco is only two years and six months old, bub he is much better grown than many three-year-olda, is an uncommonly nice cut of a horse, full of quality, a beautiful mover, and a thorough gentleman in every way. General Tracy was looking in perfect health, and moved round in great style. The well-known Blackwood Abdallah, sire of a nnmher of the fastest trotters in New Zealand, was also looking well, and appeared to be in the very best of condition for his season's work.
