ASHLEY COUNTY CLUB

I The annual general meeting of the members of this Club was held at the Junction Hotel, Rangiora, on Tuesday evening. Mr E. Wilder, Captain of the Club, presided, and there was a good attendance. The following were elected members of the Club, viz., Messrs G. Smith, W. G.-and H. Hussey, G. Pain, D. Stewart, T. and G. T. Croft, H. Archer, and H, Rule. The Secretary, Mr Helmore, gave a short report of the doings of the Club during the past year. Tne first eleven was very unfori tun.tte in its matches, winning only two, those against the Amuri and the North Canterbury Association, and in the-Senior i Cup matches occupying the position of I "whipper-in." The* Second Eleven played with the North Canterbury Association, and was also not very successful. Mr Helmore headed the batting averages with 14, and Iso won the bat given by the President. Owing to the expenditure of £20 in pajmanent improvements tne balance-sheet shows a deficiency of about that amount, the liabilities being £23, but several outstanding subscriptions will be paid. FendalL It was decided to discontinue playing in ' the senior c j, and to enter two teams with the North Canterbury Association, subject to conditions to be arranged. ! The opening day was hxed for 30th September, and the Secretary was instructed to endeavor to arrange a match with the ■ Amuri Club ea'ly in October. i The presentation of the bats won by Mr j Helmore was made, and the President also ; handed a bat to Mr J. A. Sale for his fielding, and being the second highest scorer. Bats were offered by the President and Mr Wilder fcr the coming season, and the meeting terminated. The annual meeting of the Greendale Cricket Club was held in the Public Library on Tuesday evening. There was a very fair attendance. The officers elected for the ensuing year were as follows:—Mr T. W. ; Adams (President), R. W. Wilson (captain), G. Wilson (vice-captain), C. L. McCrostie (Secretary). It was decided to open the i season on Saturday, September 16th.
