ENTERTAINMENTS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
Last night at the Oddfellows' Hall a very unique and successful entertainment was fiveu in aid of the choir funds of St. lary's, Manchester street. This comprised a concert, the items of which were illustrated by .pictures shown by Mr Seager by means of the oxy-ether light. There was a large attendance, and the various items were given well. Mrs Kelly sang "He shall feed His flock" and " Killarney " very nicely indeed. Miss Gamble sang " Let ljie dream again," and Miss Hayward " The Better Land." Miss A. Hayward gave "Alas those chimes" well. Mr C. Read sang very nicely indeed " Ora Pro Nobis " and " Only once More," and the remainder of the solos were given by Messrs Cronin, Blake, and McCormack. A lady recited " Jane Conauest," and Miss Evans played " The Brook" well as a piano solo. ' Mr Seager's pictures were as a whole appropriate though his love of fun led him somewhat astray when he gave ns "The Bridge of Sighs," "The Leaning Tower of Pisa, and "St.Peter'sat Rome," asilluatro-. tions to " The Moon has raised her lamp and views of the Thames to "The Better Land." However, where all was so good this was but as the crumpled roseleaf of the sybarite. The entertainment as a whole was very enjoyable and quite unique, and: all taking part in it deserve great credit. .
As will be seen by advertisement elsewhere the Students of Truth open their new school building to-morrow evening with a tea for the children, after which there is given a concert and. Kindergarten entertainment in the Social hall with calisthenics, pole drill, butterfly dance, and a military drill. All preparations to give the little ones a good time have been arranged by the teachers and friends. The ladies connected with the Lyceum will give a Social at the Lyceum to-night. An entertainment will be given this evening at the Schoolroom, Avonside, in aid of the Sunday school fund. At the Oddfellows' Hall this evening Mr T. Crook will give an exhibition of dissolving views, &c. ■
