THE WELLINGTON DRAINAGE TROUBLE.
♦ (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] WELLINGTON, June 29. In a letter to the Po*tmaster.General on the discharge of sewage into Lyell Bay, Dr. Lemon states that it is well known that sewage, in a state, of decomposition, settling on iron, after a time dertroys it. He states that he is aware tbat for the next teo, fifteen or twenty-five years no damage may ensue, but when Wellington becomes thickly populated, as it will eventually, then the damage to the cables will .most certainly happen. He points out in Sydney that they had changed the drainage into the harbor after a lapse of twenty-five years. The Mayor has written to the Post-master-General expressing his willingness to submit the matter to a commission of scientific men, and adds that he has not been informed whether the Government intend to accept Dr. Lemon's opinion without hearing the corporation.
