SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The usual monthly meeting of the Akaroa School Committee was held on Monday evening. Present —Mr G. Armstrong (chairman), Messrs Futraell, Lelievre, West tenra, Penrose and Heywood. It was resolved that the school break up on the 15th for six weeks' holiday. It was also decided that the Education Board should be asked to appoint a truant officer, as the attendance was so irregular. The prizes are to be presented on Thursday afternoon by the Chairman and Mr Lelievre, and to be given on the number of marks obtained. Some minor business was transacted, and the meeting adjourned.

A meeting of the JVlalvern School Committee was held on Tuesday. Members present—Messrs Wallace (Chairman), Bull, HMop, Armstrong, and S. Hight. The Inspector's report of the late examination was received and considered most satisfactory. A resolution congratulating the master and staff was passed and recorded, the Committee considering the year's work was very successful. After disposing of routine business an adjournment was made.

A meeting of the Barry's Bay School Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present—Messrs D. H. Lβ Conite (Chairman), R. A. Stewart, Jas. Wilson, W. G. Chatfield, and F. Williams. The master reported a roll number of 55, and an average attendance for the month of November of 40, most of the absentees being in the npper classes. Leave of absence for a week was granted to the pupil teachera in order to attend the annual examination at Christchurch. In consequence of complaints it was understood that for the future no written work should be given to be done at home. It was arranged that the school should be closed for a week at Christmas and for five weeks during the harvest. No tender for fencing having been received it waa decided to ask Mr R. Latter to erect the dividing fence, and that the Committee would pay half the estimated cost. A number of small accounts were passed for payment,after which the meeting adjourned.
