PUBLIC SWIMMING BATH.
The public meeting to consider - the swimming bath question takes place at the Theatre Royal this evening, and it behoves all who are interested to attend and give expression to their opinions, cither in addresses or in supporting the motions which it may be deemed expedient to propose. The gentlemen who have tbe project in hand deserve hearty co-operation and support in order that, before very long, the citizens of Christchurch may remove fro:n their city the stigma attaching to it through the want of a proper and well-organised public bath for swimming and cleansing purposes. The programme arranged for this evening includes the following motions : — " 1. That iv the opinion of this meeting it is necessary and desirable that public baths should be established by the city authorities ; 2. That a portion of the site known as the market reserve is eminently adapted for the purpose, and that the. City Council be requested to obtain the necessary power to use the same for the erection of swimming baths and other public purposes; 3. That this meeting strongly urges upou the members of the City Council that they should reconsider this question and carry into effect the wishes of the ratepayers by establishing public baths on the site named ; 4. That the thauks of this meeting bo tendered to his Worship the Mayor for presiding-thia evening and that he be requested to sign and forward the foregoing resolutions to the City Council.''
