PIGEON SHOOTING.
The pigeon shooting matches organised by Mr A. J. Kelly came off on Wednesday afternoon, in a paddock lent by Mr Bant and situated on the Wakanui troad, about a mile from Ashbarton. Mr Kelly and air R. Hicks shared the duties of handicapper ana referee. A high wind assisted a good many birds to get away. The financial resale of the matches will be a small suralua to hand over for the benefit of the widow and family of the late Mr Hackshawr. The following are the J? 8a . lte A£ S ? ree P of 10, each ' fiv «> birds— J. <4** to (27yd8) 4, and G. Henderson (28yds) 4, divided flret and second; C. Williams (fflyde) 3, third; six other* competed. Silver cop, with a sweep of 10s each, seven birds—H. Primmer (JBydo) 6, first: J. Qoaln (28yds) 5, and B. Hanks (28yds) 5. divided second and third; five others competed. Muft sweep of 5» each, four birds, was won by J. Miles; eight competed. Open sweepstake of £1 each, neven birds— J. Qaain i2Byds) ttrst; ,0. Williams (27yds) second; B. Bird (22yds) third, 81x out of eight competitors tied at four birds each. In flring off, Qaain killed two birds, and Williams missed one. ;
