THE BRACKENFIELD HOUNDS.

These hounds met at Rotherham on the 21st, and a large and well-mounted field, which included ladies, turned up to welcome the pack. Ihe heavy rain of the previous day had moistened the ground, and scent was probably better than it has been before this season, though the going was slightly greasy. The first hare was founa in some flax close to the township, and ran a half circle to Achray, where she got on to some turnip land badly stained with sheep, and hounds could make nothing more of it. The distance must have been quite five miles, and most of it was done at racing pace. Mr Allen then appeared on the scene driving a cart loaded with good things, which had been kindly provided by certain sporting bachelors of the district, *t whose homesteads the hounds have never yet met, and a short interval was very profitably filled np by lunch. They next found in an unoccupied section near the township, and had a capital run of twenty-five minutes, with only two slight turns in it, which most of the field found very serviceable. The only two -who were really with hounds after the first tarn being Messrs Greenwood and J. Macdonald. The fences were mostly bare wire, bat falls were mostly conspicuous by their absence, showing what a great improvement in the horses has been made since last season. This second hare was killed in a small plantation of Mr James Macfarlane's, who most hospitably entertained the hounds during their visit. The meet on Friday is to be at Culverden. The hounds are in the pink of condition, and the huntsman and whip are decidedly the right men in the right places.
