traBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.] AUCKLAND, July _2. The Rev. J. Phew, a Congregationalist, was elected President, and Rev. T. F. Robertson, Presbyterian, Vice-President of the new United Church Evangelical Council. Operations will be confined to the provincial district of Auckland. The City Schools Committee passed a resolution strongly disapproving of the proposal submitted to the Board of Education to reduce the head teachers' salaries to a maximum of JB3OO, believing it detrimental to the best interests of education in the district. The Salvation Army opened a Rescue Home. A large quantity of furniture, &c., it is anticipated, will be contributed by the public for furnishing it. MASTERTON, July 22. A young man named Seaton Was killed at Gladstone yesterday through a load of firewood falling on him. DUNEDIN, July 22. The City Council to-night passed a resolution to the effect that if the Local Authorities Accounts Bill is passed into law, it will unduly harass the Council in its financial operations, without effecting any improvement on the present system of bookkeeping, or providing any more certain checks. The resolution is to be sent to the Premier and city membera.
Private information received states that Mr Stanton, late manager of the Bank of Australasia here, has been appointed general manager of the City Bank, Sydney.
