ROAD BOARDS.
LINCOLN.
Tbe annual meeting of ratepayers was held at noon on June Ist, the chairman of the Board presiding. Tbe attendance was limited to the memoers of the Board ana two ratepayers. The Clerk read the statement of accounts, which showed the receipts to have been with balance in hand from last year £1229195, the expenditure £1017 7s 7d, leaving a balance to credit of £212 lis sd. The Ulerk in an exhaustive report explained every item of the expenditure, which received from those present a very flattering vote of thanks. The balance sheet having .been adopted, tbe meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. The first meeting of the Board since the election was then held. All the members were present, Mr. J. W. Overton being unanimously re-elected chairman, and a hearty vote of thanks accorded to him for his past services. Correspondence was read from the
Selwyn County Council re dog registration, stating that the police had taken In hand the collection of the tax, and that the old arrangement with the Board would terminate on the 31*t May. From the same, stating that an application from the Domain Board had been received for a grant of £12 for fencing, whioh the Council were willing to grant subject to the Board s approval. Agreed to. From the same, flung the Board's contribution to charitable aid at £13415s lOd, which could be- paid out of ordinary revenue or by a rate of _ of a penny in the £, copy of the notice making the rate was en dosed. The Board elected to levy the rate. The Clerk's report was read, aod it was decided to commence distributing poisoned grain. Mr Prebble proposed, aud Mr F. Spencer seconded—"That notice be given of the Board's iatention tp levy a rate of a halfpenny in tbe 23 for toe current year, and that the Waimakariri andcbaritahleeia rate be levied at the same time." Only one tender wae sent in for renting the pound, 'which was half tbe rent of the cottage only, and was declined. The late poundkeeper made an offer to look after the pound, range, &c, which w*a accepted for six months. Resolved, that tenders be invited for keeping clean the tramway drains, Creyke's drain, Dawson's creek, Prebble'e drain, and the outfall creek, for twelve months, in two sections. The Clerk was instructed to obtain from tho County Council—lst, upon what basis tbe allocations to the district were made; 2nd, the time of making same, and the reason the amounts were not made known to the Boards interested. Several minor matters were attended to. accounts £55 3s 8d passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
