BRACKENFIELD HOUNDS.

A correspondent writes : —The Brackenfield hounds met at Mr Fred. Luers' farm, View Hill, on Wednesday, Mr R. J. Parsons, huntsman, riding Kingston, and Mr McDonald The Shrew, Sixty horsemen w.ere in the field, the most noticeable being Messrs F. Crowe, sen., W. Chapman, R. Gilchrist, Peter Wright and R. Parlane. Luncheon was partaken of at Mr F. Luers', after which a start was made. A hare sprang up about a quarter of a mile from the house, and after a smart gallop of five minutes the hounds were called off. Another cast off in a turnip field and pussy left her seat in grand style, and in less than three minutes the dogs had settled down to as pretty a run as was ever seen in Canterbury or anywhere else. The fences were sth% and were negotiated in grand style by the gentlemen mentioned above, the muffs, your correspondent amongst them, getting sundry spills, and I have to thank Mr Basset for my escape from a smash, he cleverly landing his horse within a few inches of my cheek. Seated again and away we go for thirty minutes and secure a kill. A few minutes more and we are away again. Fifteen minutes' hard galloping, some capital jumping, and another kill. A short respite and Mr Paget V refreshment cart appeared on the scene, but soon another hare was away, and every one agrees that no better hare ever ran before a pack of hounds. For full three-quarters of an hour she kept them busy, and she is living yet, as she deserves to ao. The hounds then returned to their quarters at Mr Luers'. It is worthy of note that the farmers offered no opposition to the sport, although some of them stood a chance of turnips and early sown crops being injured. They were quite willing to arrange with the Club so that the huntsmen and whip could cross their paddocks, especially Messrs MeGrath, Mcßyar, McMahon, Duder, and others. Notwithstanding that the rain poured down heavily the most of the day and the temperature was low, all were well pleased with the day's sport.
