LAWN TENNIS.
During the last few weeks two handicap tournaments have been played off between the members of the Sydenham Lawn Tennis Club, as a fitting windup of the summer season. The first was on the American system of each player meeting in turn all the other members, and Mr W. Hawley ultimately came out the winner, he having the most games to his credit at the conclusion of the tournament.
Subsequent to this the President (Mr G. T. Booth), and the Vice-Presidents of the Club (Messrs J. Forrester and J. Baldwin), very generously offered prizes for competition amongst the members, and it was resolved to hold a Final Men' Handicap and a Ladies _ Handicap tournament Tins waa the means of bringing out some excellent play on the part of the men, and eventually resulted in a win for Mr T. W. Beare, with Mr W. Hawley runner-up. All the ladies' matches have not been played and it is yet impossible to say who will be the successful competitor.
