GAZETTE NOTICES.
r (PRESS association telegram.) WELLINGTON, May 14. The "Gazette" notifies that, whereas malt acid has properties in part which can be used for a sioiuar purpose as vinegar, a duty of six shillings and sixpence per gallon is levied on it. The Governor holds an undress levee here on Tuesday, 26th inst., in honor of the Queen's Birthday. Mr John Edwin March is gazetted Superintendent of Village Settlements for the colony. The appointment of Mr J. D. Ritchie as Chief Inspector of the Stock Department is gazetted. Mr J. R. Somerville, late Captain of the Alexandra Cavalry, is appointed Major on the Unattached Active List, New Zealand Volunteers. Lieut.-Colonels Stapp, Butts, and Shepherd, late officers commanding districts, have been promoted Colonels on the Honorary Unattached List, New Zealand Volunteers. Major Feldwick, of the New Zealand Regiment of Artillery, is promoted Lieutenant-Colonel, Mr D. Stronach, late Captain of the Otago Hussars, has been appointed Honorary Major of that troop. Lieutenant Hislop, Wellington Navals, has been transferred to the Unattached Active List, with the rank of Lieutenant-Com-manding. Further decisions of the Commissioners of Customs under the Tariff Acts are gazetted.
