The monthly meeting was held on Wednesday evening, 13th inst. Present— Mr J. Munnings (Chairman), Messrs C. H. Winny, W. Johnson, N. K. Bowden, R. Hill Fisher, E. Rundle and G. T. Chisnall. Before the minutes of the first meeting of the Committee were confirmed, Mr Bowden took exception to the business done, contending that anything beyond the election of the Chairman was illegal, and moved— ** That all the minutes after the Chairman's election be struck out." Mr Johnson seconded the proposition. The amendment was lost, however, and the minutes confirmed by 4 votes to 2. The Chairman reported he had inspected the roofs of some of the buildings, and found it necessary to set a man to execute repairs to skylights, &c. It was decided Messrs Bowden and Johnson be visiting Committee to the side school, and Messrs Winny and Fisher to the main school. The Headmaster wrote stating the children of the fifth and sixth Standards availed themselves of the invitation of the President of the Canterbury Society of Arts, to visit the exhibition held in the Art Gallery, and the teachers of the classes were very glad of the opportunity of affording instruction as well as enjoyment to their scholars. He also asked the consent of the Committee to a proposed alteration in the method of assigning school prizes now that the Inspector's examination took place bo early in the year, to award prizes in December for the work done in the classes in which the children have been for six or seven months, not for proficiency in the standard they last passed. The Head Mistress proposed to have the sewing of the school examined by a Committee of ladies' as soon as the Inspector's examination was over. A list of requirements and repairs was enclosed. It was resolved that the Visiting Committee see to the necessary repairs and requisites. The Committee agreed to the Head Master's suggestion about prize giving. A hearty vote of thanks- was -passed to the President of the Canterbury Society of Arts. The Committee agreed to forward the following resolution to the Minister of Edu-cation—-That this Committee consider the clauses of the School Committee Election Act of 1890 relating to the election of School Committees too cumbersome, and would suggest to the Minister for Education that they be amended before the next annual election of School Committees. Mr Fisher gave notice of motion to ask the Board of Education to alter the boundaries of the district. Three tenders for the supply of fuel were received, and that of Messrs W. White and Co., being the lowest, was accepted. Accounts amounting to £5 17s 4d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned at 8.45 p. m.
