RECREATION GROUND FOR WELLINGTON.
(press association telegram.)
WELLINGTON, May 13.
A number of Wellington residents are moving in the direction of forming a recreation ground on a grand scale for the city. It is proposed to form a Company, with a capital of £30,000, and reclaim eighteen acres of the harbor in Oriental Bay, and to form a first class ground, with a view of making the Empire City the centre of all athletic sports. Tha grand stand, which it is proposed to erect, will be constructed so as to be available for almost all classes of entertainment. The City Reserves Committee of the City Council has decided to recommend that the necessary permission be given to the promoters, subject to a stipulation that the ground is not to be used for any other purposes than those mentioned iathe proposal. It is understood that the Harbor Board will not offer any objection to a Bill passing through Parliament giving the promoters power to carry oat the work.
