SENIOR CUP MATCHES.
LANCASTER PARK C.C. XL V LAN-
CASTER PARK C.C. XV.
The final act in connection with Senior Cup matches for the present season was performed on Saturday afternoon, and probably no previous season has been wound up in so dreary a manner. The weather was wretched, a fine but soaking rain coming down nearly ail the afternoon. To make matters worse only eighc of the Junior team put in au appearance, and this completely robbed the game of any luterest tnat might have been taken In it. This showing ot the white feather does not say much for the enthusiasm of the players who absented themselves —to say nothing of the want of consideratiou shown to the other members of the team, and a one-inuiugs defeat would at lease have been saved if the Fifteen had batted a full team.
With seven wickets down for 111, Wilding and North resumed their innings for the Eleven. After the former had brought his score to 30 by three hits for two each, he was splendidly caught by Cuff, who was fielding substitute. Talt was dismissed first ball, and A. Ridley partnered North. Good bowliug with the greasy ball was out of the question, and both batsmen scored very freely. With the score at 152, Ridley was caught on' a misshit, after making 18 by very free cricket. North carried out his bat for 35, and these were obtained by good cricket. His leg hitting was very good, and he had also showed good defence.
Beiug 73 to the bad the Fifteen followed on, but notwithstanding the loose bowling the venture had only produced 65 at the fall of the eighth and last wicket. Waller was tbe ouly one to get into double figures, and his 28 were the result of good hitting. Included in his score were two fine hits to square leg for 5 each, all run out. All the bowlers got good averages, DeMaus coming in at the finish with tnree wickets for 10 runs.
The Eleven thus won the match by an inniugs and 8 runs, and they therefore become the possessors of the (Jap for the season, having gone through without a defeat.
