At the South Canterbury Education Board yesterday. the Chairman said he had received the resignation of Mr W. L. Bdse, master at Waituna. Miss Mary Oxby, selected by the liangltata Island and Gapes Valley Committees, preferred to remain at the latter school, where she now was, and he would recommend that the next selection, Mr N. Hawkes, be appointed to the former. Mr J. Smith, 'euiporarUy in charge at Sandhurst, had aTSI'L 1. Permanent situation. Mr ArcnloalQ had declined the appointment to Upper and Mr £elly, the second selection, should be appointed. M* Greaves declined the appoiutment to Waimataltai, and another recommendation, <Mr J. Wood) would be read from the Committee. Tbe Bey. Mr Barclay wrote thanking the Board for their kind and courteous expressions on receiving bis resignation, and wiehing the Board in future every success. Mr Tulbot moved, pursuant to notice—"That out of the sum which has accrued to the credit of tbe maluteuance account of the Board (some £1500 or thereabout), the sum of £500 be allocated for the payment of a bonus uddiiiou on the salaries of teachers who were in the service of the Board ou the 31st of December, 1890, and for more than a period of six mouths previously, such bonus to be calculated at follows :— On the amount received by each teacher by way of salary for the year ending December 31st, l&<0, if in the service of the Board over six months and less than one year, 2 per cent.; one year aud less than two years, 3 per cent.; two years and less than threes 4 pur cent; three years and upwards, 5 per cent. No bonus to be paid taaiiy teacher unless he shall have been lv the Board's service for a period exceediig fix months fiom December 3lst, i&K). Should thia scheme of distribution involve aa expenditure of more than £500, the payment to each teacher to Ibe proportionately reduced so as to bring to within this sum."
