Westenra moved that a Com* mlttee be formed for the purpose of carrying out t;ie work. He thought that if some photographs were taken aud framed foe ducributiau. to the chief hoteU throughout New Zealand it would be a good advertisement, also that the Union Steamship Company be asked to place Akaroa on the tourist route, and to get them to put on a better class of streamer* than at present. Aiciideacon Lingard spoke at length, and suggested that the CoiAini&tee have power to add to Gbeir number. He waj comparatively a stranger, but whilst he was in Akaroa he wished to do his. utmost and would wiiUngly give every wu&itancQ he possibly could to forward the iuto're«'t4 of the place. He said there *«* •* grcfat want of amuseuieuts for vUitor* ai present, aud would liko to see A few nice pleasure boats on the har* bor, as well as someone from whom visitors could hire horses and carriages. Advertising in the papers he coit«id«rea an excellent way of reaching the public, aud tne iuhabitants of Akaroa theotaelves should wake up to the occasion. He, had i travelled a great deal, and could confidently say that there was not. io'.his opinion a prettier spot than Akaroa in Mew Zealaud; in fact, he preferrei taej scenery to that of Lake Wlndermere in Englaud. He felt aure that eucceaa would be achieved if they were determined.
Mr McGregor said there was no mention at ull of Akaroa in Cook's Guide, and he thought the agents should be acquainted of this. His idea way a guide book giving all the chief features and interesting objects about the Peninsula, and places worth visiting. Mr Corbett called attention to the state of the township, and thought that the Borough Council should move in'the matter by adopting a good system of draiuage, water supply, and asphalting footpaths. Mr H. O. Clarkb then proposed that his Worship the Mayor, Messrs A. H. Westenru, McGregor, Duly, E. £. Lellevre, Black and Beecher compose the' Committee, which was carried. , . . »
Mr Chapp£ix requested the Committee to add the Chairmeu of the County , Council and Boad Boards, together with the name of Mr S. Lee.
A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting. . -
