THE AUCKLAND HOSPITAL
DE. COLLINS INTERVIEWED. [PBESS ASSOCIATION TKLEGRAM.I AUCKLAND, March 5. In an interview, Dr. Collins, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, said he recognised that the report of the Hospital Enquiry Commissioners could not be the end of the affair. He certainly was not going to sit down quietly and take a slap in th 9 face like that. He .had not yet received any official communication on. the Bubject. • Dr. Colline was asked what he took exception Co in connection with the report, but he said he would prefer to state all of his objections together and in proper form. He took exception, however, to the remarks made concerning the application of two email cork?, and a bandage to scop the bleeding in Berry's case. The Commissioners stated that when the means adopted of stopping the bleeding by pressure of two corks on the m&in arteries and a light bandage proved ineffective, recourse ought to have been at once had to more effective means of controlling the hemoj.Thage. Dr. Collins asaerte that the application of corks under the circumstances was preferable to the tourniquet. He deniod that the application of corks under these circumstances was an antiquated method of stopping hemorrhage. Hβ maintains that he was the best judge as to w hen McKenzie'a leg should have bsen amputated. It is thought probable that the question of hospital management will be reconsidered' by the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
