SUMNER TOWN BOARD.
The fortnightly meeting of the above Board was held at the Town Board office on Tuesday evening, the 3rd Inst. Fret sent—'Commissioners Wheeler (Chairman), Monck, Gilchrist, Kitaon, Hay ward, ana laic The Chairman apologised for the absence, through illness, of Commissioner Mills. A deputation of residents waited on the Board and asked the Board to use their influence with the Government SO get protective works carried out along t&a sea beach. The Board promised to attend co .the request of the deputation. The Poundkeeper waited on the Board, giving his jreaaons for not paying driving fees* The Chairman explained to him that Iα sli cases the driving fees must be paid on cattle impounded. The opinion of Mc Stringer as to tho powers of the Bdard in connection with the drain* age, creek and liability of owners of property fronting on the creek, was read and discussed by the Board. Moved by Commissioner Tait, seconded by Commissioner Hayvard, and carriedr* " That the Chairman, Commissioner QU« Christ, and the mover form a deputation to waiton Mr Tanner, member for Heathcote." The clerk was instructed to write to Mr Tanner. Letter from Mr Spear—-received. Mr Thomas wrote applying for a lease of stone quarry near Snag Point. The clerk to reply that the Board decline to grant a lease. The engineer's report was road and approved, attention being called to that part of the report dealing with drain pipes to be placed by owners of property under the roads leading to their houses. The Chairman of Works Committee reported on the necessity of having aide walls of stone built on part of the mala drain near Mr Monk's culvert. Keaolved that specification be prepared, and tenders I called for the work before nest Board meeting. The treasurer's statement showed receipts since last meeting, £10 7s 6d, bank balance £25 13s 10d, in hand $8> 17s 6d; outstanding—rates Yβ, contribution £5 7s Cd, footpath rate £2 8s; accounts, pastaed for payment £1119 a 4d. The moiiv ing then adjourned.
