: i No. 2 Dark—The mine manager reports lorfehe month:—"The work done in Che felae has been principally confined to jdaing and stoping over No. 2 level. The fiotaTdistance risen from the back of the djcive is 39fc,'and the amount of stoping mv the month 40 fathoms. The size Of *' the reef in the rise is sft Wbu ; and it '• has the appearance of widening as ie extends upwards. I commenced driving on No. 2 level north <m Friday last, and up to the present date .jh&ye driven Bft, making the total distance driven on the reef 123 ft. When we knocked off driving at the end of Deeeintier the reef had pinched, but anqrher splice of stone has come in. I broke it down to-day, and it shows the reef 3fc ■wide, the quality being as good as what is coming from the stopes. On the 17th February. 1. started putting in large air pipes, which >made & great impiovenieuc in. the ventilation, buc could not .complete the job, as there was not jmicb. stove at.the battery. Hovrever, now tlier'e are only five heads at work we shall bu able to put in the remainder of the pipes, and also to extend the stopes north as the level is beintt driven. The general Appearance of the mine is good, and in about &' fortnight ;I shall be prepared to •keep the ten heads poing advantageously. During the month there has been 34b* tons of quartz crushed, which, with that of last mouth{viz., 260 tons), gave a return of a&oz lOdwt of retorted gold."
