EAST CHRISTCHURCH.
The East Christchurch District School Committee held its monthly meeting on Thursday evening last. All the memoers present. A circular was received from the Board of Education, giving the names of those gentlemen nominated for the vacancies on the Board. It was decided to vote for Messrs Wm. Montgomery, J. T.Smith,and E. G. Wright. The Chairman stated Miss Keand had tendered her resignation of the position of head teacher at tbe Phillipstown side school, and that he had forwarded the same to the Board with regret. The head master's monthly report was submitted. Mr Scott stated the total number on the roils of the schools iv the district was 1762, with an average attendance of 1419.8, and that the latter showed signs of steady increase. Mr Scott then attended by request, and the question of the vacancy at Phillipstown was discussed, aud on the motion of the Rev. C. H. Bradbury, seconded by Mr Board, it was resolved to recommend the Board of Education to appoint Miss S. L. Robinson, now at the main school, to the same; also to recommend that the Misses Sutherland, Guise, and Gilmour receive promotion, and an assistant teacher be obtained to fill the resulting vacancy. It was further decided to represent to the Board of Education tbe desirability, in view of the increasing average attendance, to appoint another pupil teacher. At the request of the head mistress, the sum of £Z was voted for sewing requisites for the girls. The East Christchurch Swimming Club applied for a prize from the bath funds, and the amount of 21s was granted. The Visiting Committee was requested to inquire into the matter, and if necessary have an information laid against the offending party. After passing some accounts the meeting adjourned.
