CHRISTMAS BANDS.

SO THE XDROB OF THK PBESS. Sib,—Last year the Christmas Band visited my house after all were asleep and suddenly raided a kind of pandemonium with their torches and the drum. Its effect gave' one of my children a fright from which she may never recover, and she Is unable to listen to a brass band without exhibiting nervous agitation. Having materially damaged a< bed of petunias, some verbenas and broken off geraniums and rosea the band went out, leaving the gate open, and next morning we found two care hones on the lawn. This damage cost at least 30s, as well the levy of 10s for the band fund. This year I locked the gates, planted the dog on one side and myself on the other, and am determined I shall never give a mite to any band fund so lone as I live. My advice is this: Let persona cease to encourage the bands, and they will soon not consider it worth while to annoy folks. If it is of paramount necessity to the well being of a brass band that its members should thoroughly test their lungs, and blow themselves hoarse at the season of Christmas, then it would be better to get up a band contestnih one place whither all bands, and those who enjoy 'brazen music, could repair, and do so to their heart's content. ■ This coarse would relieve the bands from that bushranging sticklng-up system which is objectionable, and adopt a plan of raising funds more honorable and pleasant to all parties.—Yours,
