(Pjsa San FaANcnaco Mai_ at. ; .- A-CKXAND.) .'.■■-.•..-•■ .:■- ' LONDON, November 14 Regarding the consumption cure Br Koch says:-— '* The, remedy is a browjiish transparent liquid, which does not require ■ special .care to prevent decomposition. For use this fluid must be more or less" .diluted, and the dilutions are liable toi undergo decomposition if prepared" with* ; undistilled ' -Water/ as :•. bacterial growths _oon ' develop in" them; They become turbid,;*' and; are . then unfit for uije. To prevent Athis the diluted liquid must be sterilised by heat, and presecved under a cotton . Wool, stopper, or more conveniently prepared: with..i percent/ sol-tion of phenol. It would Beam, however, that the effect; is weakened both by frequent heating- and by' mixture "With lihe #_enql. When introduced into the stomach the remedy has no effect. In order,, to obtain a reliable effect it must be', injected subcutaneously. For this purpose * we have "exclusively used a small syringe suggested by mc for bacteriological work. -1 It is furnished with a small india-rubber ball, and has no piston. This syringe can easily be kept antiseptic by -ie use;of absolute alcohol. To this we, attribute ; tiae fact that no single abscess has been observed in the course of more than 1000. | subcutaneous injections. The place chosen [for the injection, after several trials of I other place*!, was' the. Blrin of the back ; between the shoulder blades knd lumber (region, because here the injection led to* | local reaction, which is generally none at all, and was ahnosf painless." . . ■
