SYDENHAM: A meeting of the District School Committee was held oh the 18th Inst. ; Present —Messrs F. C. Hall (Chairman), B. E. Maffett, T. S. Asqaitb, B. Jones, S. Wilson, O. Peacock, and the Rev. P. B» Mann*. Correspondence was received from the Board of Education, advising that the Clerk of Works will report on che state of the buildings ; that the Buildings Committee will confer with the deputation from the School Committee respecting the new scnool and repairs on Tuesday, the 2nd of December, and that the Committee can give a teacher permission to absent himself for a day or other short time, Besolved the Board be asked for a definition of the words " other short time," so that there may he no doubt as to the Committee's power in this respect. A letter was received from Mrs M. A. dark, asking for an interview with the Committee regarding; thetraaat clause in the Education Act. Bssolvedthe letter be acknowledged, and Mrs Clark advised that owing to the want of aacommo* datioo in the district the claoss referred to could not be enforced, ani It would be troubliag her to no purpose.
