ROAD BOARDS.
TEMPLETON.
The monthly meeting of this Road Board was held on Monday, the 2nd inst. Present—Messra Carpenter, Bailey, Marsh, Taylor and Gnnn. Mr Carpenter was reelected Chairman. Business done by the Chairman and Clerk since the last meeting, via., purchase of a horse for road work and acceptance of tender for boulder carting to Hornby, was approved. Correspondence was then read as follows:— > From Mr N. a Lean, asking that the road adjoining rural section 6827, in his occupation, might be thrown open. The Surveyor was instructed to have existing sates. &c, thereon removed. From Mr William Bailey, asking the Board to supply gate and posts to gravel pit on reserve 218 in his occupation in lieu of existing hurdles. Granted. From Mr B. Woolorton stating that he desired to transfer the remainder of his lease of reserve 106, expiring July Ist, 1891, to Mr Henry Watson, also from Mr Watson accepting and asking the Board's sanction to the transfer. Granted. From Mr W. Acton Adams, asking permission to remove gates on Willon's, Oox's, and Kavanagh's roads to the southern ends thereof, as he had now acquired the land adjoining them. Granted, subject to the usual conditions. Erom the Selwyn County Council, stating that the amount of this Board's contributions for charitable aid for the year ending 31 st March, 1891, is £141 16s 9d, and desiring to be Informed if the Board preferred the sum to be paid out of funds that may be available instead of collecting the rate. Resolved that the former method be adopted. From the same requesting that returns of receipts and expenditure for the year ended 31sd March, 1890, should be forwarded before the 14th inst. The clerk was instructed to attend to the matter. From the hon. sec to the Yaldhurst Public Cemetery, suiting that the Templeton Road Board had been gazetted as a Board of Trustees for the cemetery; that at a public meeting held on the 19th May last it was suggested tkat persons residing in or near xaldhurst would be more likely to take an active interest in the welfare and management of the cemetery than the members of the Board, who live many miles apart and some considerable distance from the cemetery; and, further, that at the meeting five gentlemen were elected residing in Yaldhurst, names enclosed, and a resolution passed requesting that their names be forwarded to the Secretary for Public Works by the Board, with a recommendation that they be duly appointed Trustees. The approved of the action taken, and instructed the Glerk to communicate with the Secretary of Public Works thereon. In accordance with the Surveyor's report It was decided to procure 200 yards of broken metal for the middle Lincoln road and also to advertise for tenders for constructing a culvert in the same road. With respect to the formation of road across Reserve 947 to rural section 9787, for which application had been made, the Clerk waa directed to ascertain its exact position on the map before proceeding with the work. Instructions were given for the purchase of two bags of poisoned wheat. The question of levying general road rates for the current year was next considered and it was decided that at the next meeting, to be held on July 7th, a rate of one half-penny in the £ should be struck and levied on all property in Nos. 1 and 2 sub-divisions, and one farthing in the £ in Nos. 3, 4 and 5 sub-divisions, to become due and payable on July 14th next. The Clerk was instructed to advertise same, in accordance with the Rating Act, 1882, and also take necessary measures .for collecting the Waimakariri river rate at the same time. Other routine business having been disposed of, and accounts amounting to £i 57s Id passed for payment, the meeting adjourned.
