MINING NEWS.
[By Teleorapb.) LTROM OUB COBBXSPOHDSHT.] V ~^ REEFTON, M*y 1. United Alpine—The half-yearly meeting of shareholders was held at Lyell yesterday, when the old Directory was reelected. The exact figures for the last crashing are not yet known, bnt the average yield per ton is given at nearly lidwt, the number of tons crashed being about 450.
Supreme—lt is said that over 1001b of quicksilver wa3 lost daring the crasairg, and traces of it ace to be found in the tailings. Strangely enough the proportion of skimmings collected daring the crashing was considered fairly* good, yet when the boxes were opened they contained scarcely anything, while the plates were quite bare. In the meantime the shares have been seriously affected, and calls will have to be made to meet pressing liabilities.
