W, Moore, J.P.] ; Unbranded Sheep.—Michael Kennedy was lined, la per head and costs fqr exposing for sale in a public yard four sheep which nad not TJeen branded with the registered brand of the owner. STJSAXXKGt PROM THE PERSON.—Da vid Stewart was charged with stealing from the person of John Woodhead the sum of £21 in notes, gold, and one cheque. Mr F. Wilson Smith appeared for accused. John Woodhead deposed to driving from Temuka to Geraldine with 'accused; On arriving at Geraldine about two p.m. he laid down on the sofa in the parlor of the Crown Hotel, the money being then in his pocket. When woke up by a man named X ie he found the money was gone, and then, recollected that accused had adjusted his pillows while he was lying there. Went and found the accused, taxed him with having the money, and demanded it back. Accused denied having ie, and wad given in charge. B. Bae deposed to finding prosecutor asleep on the sofa at the Crown Hotel, and waging him up. Woodhead felt in his pocket and found his money gone, and immediately accused Stewart of taking it. Saw prisoner arrested, and searched at the police station, when £16 7s 3d were found oa him in notes, gold and silver. Woodhead identified two of the notes as two of those he had lost. Mary Farrel, of the Crown Hotel, and her housemaid, deposed to accused changing with them the cheque lost by Woodhead. Constable Wiiloughby of Geraldine deposed to arresting accused on the information of Woodhead and searching him in the presence of Woodhead and R&e. Found £16 7s 3d upon him, two notes of which Woodhead identified as some he had lost. Accused reserved bis defence and was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Timaru. Bail was allowed, the accused in £100 and two sureties of £50 each.
