SUMNER TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of the Sumner Town Board was held on Tuesday evening, all the Commissioners being present except the Chairman, from whom an apology was received. Commissioner Kitsoa was elected Chairman of the meeting. On tbe motion of Commissioner Gilchrist, seconded by Commissioner Hayward, it was resolved —" That a general rate of Is in the & be struck on all rateable property in the district for the year 1890, payable in one sum on April 30th. The rate book was then signed and the corrections initialled. This concluded the business of the special meeting. The ordinary meeting was then held. Correspondence was read—From the Government Auditor, enclosing the balance sheet for the year ended March 31st, which be had certified. From the Property Tax Commissioner, enclosing form of declaration, which when duly signed and returned would entitle the Board to receive the balance of subsidy due. A deputation, consisting of Messrs G. P. Kay and A. Cambridge, waited upon the Board. They asked that an amount should be voted for the formation of Bury street. After discussion, it was resolved, on the motion of Commissioaer Monck, seconded by Commissioner Hay ward—" That the Board agree to expend £150 on the formation of streets. Those streets in which the owners will contribute the greatest amount will be taken first into consideration. Applications will be received from persons desirous of getting streets formed up to noon, May 13th." . A deputation from the Literary and Lawn Tennis Club waited upon the Board asking leave to form a rough footpath from Nayiand street to the Club's halL Permission was granted, provided that the work should be carried out to the satisfaction of the Works Committee. The (-ha-rman of the Works Committee reported that the Heberden and Lyttelton ro_ds had been inspected in order to consider the advisability or otherwise of taking over the Heathcote Road Board's portion for maintenance, in terms of their letter. It- was estimated that at least the sum of £30 would be required to be spent upon them Immediately, and that the sum offered by the Road Board would not be more than sufficient to maintain the roads. A letter had been sent to the Heathcote Road Board, declining. The Treasurer's statement was read, allowing receipts since last meeting £2, payments £12 lis, balance at Bank and in hand £23 lis 9d. Accounts amounting to £17 18s 4d were passed for payment and the , meeting adjourned.
