London, December 7.
Petsch, Doebling and Co., Australian merchants, of Akiernaansbury, E.C., have failed, ; liabilities .£70,000, assets £27,000. They attributed their bankruptcy to depression of trade with Australia, and the action of Victoria in raising the Customs dues, and losses in Sydney business. Three months' biUs are quoted at 3| per cent. The English wheat market is steady. Continental shews a general advance. American market is also steady. Forward business is active, and foreign arrivals large.

New Zealand hemp, £28 5a to £28 10a.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following London cable message dated 6th Dec.:— "tyool-r-The sales progress bteadily. Quotations are unchanged. Tallow—There is a fair demand. Quotations are unchanged since last telegram. Frozen Meat—-The mutton market is quiet. Canterbury and Wellington mutton are worth respectively 4Jd and 4£d per lb. The beef market is dulL Fore and hind quarters are worth respectively 3£d ami -id per lb.
