LINWOOD TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
The Linwood Lawn Tennis Tournament was continued on Saturday. Flay commenced at 2 p.m. The weather was lovely, and the ground in splendid order. A large number of visitors were on the ground, and afternoon tea was dispensed as usual. Of the games played on Saturday that between Miss Gordon and Miss Griffiths was well worth seeing, being well fought ' out, and frequently bringing forth rounds of applause. Of the others the following were che most noticeable:—Mrs OlUvler and Mrs Stewart v Misses Simpson and Palairet, Misses Lean and Ridings t Miss Van Asch and Sutcliffe, Missea Simpson ana Pavitt v Misses Griffith and Mclntosh, Miss £. Van Asch v Miss Simpson. Messrs Stewart and Hidings also played very well in their respective singles. Second Round. Miss Gordon (owe 15) beat Miss Griffith (owq £45 and received 2 b), β-o, I—B, 7—c. Miss E. Van Asch (received 15) beat Mies Simpsen (owe £-15 and received 2 b>, 6—5, 4-0,6-3. Miss Duckworth (owe £-15 and received 2 b) beac Miss Shaud (received £-30 and 1 b), 6-3, 3-6. 6-3. Miss M. Simpson (received 15 and 1 b) beat Miss Lean (owe 15), 6—2,6—5. Third Round. Miss M. Simpson (received 15 and 1 b) beat Miss Duckworth (owe £-15 and re* ceived 2 b), 6—3, 6—4. LADIES , DOUBLES. Second Round. Misses E. and M. Simpson (received $-30) beat Misses Pottenger (received £-30 + 2 b), 0-6, 6-1, 6-3. COMBINED. First Round. Mesdames Ollivier and Stewart (owe £-15) beat Miss M. Simpson and Palairet (received 30), 6—o, o—6, 7—5. Miss Gordon and Wilding (owe 30) boat Miss Stycheand Seymour (received £-30+ 2 b> 5-6, 6-4, 6-2. Turner beat Lane. 6—2, 6— i. Bristed beat Williams, 6—3, 6—o. Shires beat Perceval, 6—2, 4—6, 6—2. Wilding and Garland unfinished ; Garland one set. It is hoped that all who can will get off their set* during the week, as the finals will be played on Saturday next, play commencing at 2. p.m., at which time players are requested to be present.
