COURTENAY.
A meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, October Sth met. PresentMessrs T. H. Anson (Chairman), .1. Gougn, W. McLennan, H. A. Knight, J. Dysart and C. Rudd. Tenders were opened for the worke advertised, and those of E. Kerr at 7£d, D. Murphy Uttd, McCausland and Mauson la 3d, E. Vaujchan Bd, and J. Hughes Is Id per cubic yard for metalling were accepted, and for cutting and clearing: gorse from roads fronting part of R S. 6898, the tender of John Walker for £210s was accepted. Correspondence was read from the Selwyn County Council, re spreading and levelling debris from the water-race on Bealey's road fronting land in the occupation of Mr J. Jones, declining to do the work, but consenting to the same being done by Mr Jones on that part of the reserve which is vested in the Council. From the same, covering cheque for *10, being grant on account of small birds for the year ending March 31st, 1889. From the Canterbury College with the consent of the Board of Governors to the closing of an unused road near Aylesbury. From Rev. J. J. O'Donnell, calling the attention of the Board to the state of the Telegraph road at the entrance to the church at Darfield. Surveyor to attend to it. From J. J. Hannaut and others, askinjr that the Essendon 'road may be metalled from Shepherd's to the Telegraph road. Tenders to be invited for part of the work. From F. Holland, N. Clinton and R. Johnson,, asking permission to plough portions of road fronting their lands for the destruction of gorae. Granted on the usual conditions. From residents at DarQeld, applying for a level crossing to be put down over the railway at the road between reserve 1748 and allotment 22, V.S., Horndon. The Clerk to apply to the Railway Department for same. From W. J. Orr and J. McDowall, requesting their names may be removed from the roll on account of certain lands sold to Geo. Hutchings and A. Rug? respectively, and the latter names inserted in place thereof. Granted. The resolution passed at last meeting striking a general rate was confirmed, and Messrs J. Gough and W. McLennan appointed to sign the rate book. Resolved—" That the Board agrees to pay 2d per dozen for small birds eggs, and 6d per dozen for old birds' heads ; that the Clerk be authorised to dispose of the balance of the poisoned wheat to ratepayers at the rate of Is per bag of lOlbs; also that tenders b* invited for various works of metalling." Accounts amounting to £99 Is 2d were passed for payment, and the ' oard adjourned till Tuesday, November 12th next.
