MUla. j A beautiful spring-like day favored the I winter meeting of che New Brighton j Racing Club's trotting meeting, and the i course was found to be in excellent order, i the grass haviug made a e-ood start thus early on the course proper. Taking advan - I tage of Che fine weather, the sport-loving element was as strong as ever at such j gatherings, and by the time the second I race came on for decision tbe attendance [ was quite up to the average. The fields were good all through. The good form i shown by Balderdash, a son of Kouser and Mischief, together with the big dividends, were the features of tbe meeting. Mr Free provided an excellent luncheon. The races were got off punctually, and the management was good, Mr Mills being most obliging in his capacity as Secretary. The following were the results :—

Balderdash went to the head of affairs soon after the start, and, trotting in better form than the others, kepc on drawing away, eventually winning by thirty or forty lengths in the easiest manner; a race between second and third. Tamahana never showed prominent. Time, 6min 12* sec. Totalisator, 72-24—£118s.

Berlin Boy, 45.cc; 12, Wee Wee. 47sec; 1, Yankee Tom, 50___ Silverstream worked his way to the front in tbe tirst round and led past the stand, Bobby making up his ground very fast and running third at the top turn, Butcher Boy following close on the heels of Silverstream in the second place. Going down the back Silverstream now passed by Butcher Boy and by Bobby, and it looked any odds on the latter as they turned into the straight, as he got to the head of affairs, but bursting a blood vessel in the head he choked, and was caught on the post, and beaten by a head, Silverstream a bad third. Time, ounin 32sec. Total, 213-27. Dividend, £7 2s. Handicap Time Trot (in siddle), of 35 soys; second home 5 soys from the stakes. Three miles. 6. Mr J. P. lE. Balderdash went to the front, and trotting in grand style led the whole journey' Wait-a-While overhauling Potatau and Wanda, and beating them on the post, getting second place, Wanda beating Potatau by a length. Rocks took matters so leisurely from the start that he was immediately passed by Waterbury, but Lamplighter showing great pace went to the front, stopping there all the way, and finally ran home an easy winner, with twenty lengths to the good. Gipsy," Potatau, and Waikari ran a hard race for the second place, Potatau outstaying the other two. Time, 9min 3 Isec Totalisator — 242—82; dividend, £-- 13s.
