Received August 6th, 12.45 p.m. Athens, August 5. A serious conflict has taken place in Crete between the Turkish troops and the malcontents. Received August 7th, 1.52 a-m. London, August 6. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Sir. Jas. Fergusson stated that the present trouble in Crete was due to sanguinary riots among local political factions and was not a revolt against the Sultan. St. Petersburg!!, August 6. The Government has appealed to the Porte to maintain order in Crete and protect Russian residents there.
