ASHBURTON.
A meeting of householders was held on' Monday night to elect a School Committee i for the borough of Ashburton. The 3 meeting was very largely attended, much| general interest being taken in schools matters just now, in consequence of the? impending appointment of the Head| Master. Ihis is the third attempt tojj elect a Committee for the ensuing year,'; the two former having been upset technical points. That held on tiM statutory date on the ground that iftie ballot had been taken, although onjfy| the requisite number of was proposed, and the next because tl af votes were held to have been improperwf received. The chair was occupied by Mm Gideon Scott. Thirteen candidates wei *2 nominated, and the election resulted J \i the return of the following:—Messrs "v A H. Kneen, 204; E. J. Paul, 62; W. J. Si g cock, 60; Gideon Scott, 49 ;J. Porter, 49g£ W. Craighead, 48 ;B. S. Bean, 46. Fortf householders voted for Mr Kneen, who S the retiring master, the others, with the exception of one (Mr Porter) got 22, 21, 20| and 18 voters eaih. *
