GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

The improved tone of European cables has inspired holders of wheat with more confidence. Prices however at Home are still too low to tempt buyers to operate with freedom, and as very little is offering transactions have been small and infrequent. The market for oats is practically in the same position as it was last week. Growers are ottering very sparingly, while merchants are only buying to fill actual orders, and as our southern neighbors continue to under quote us, they still retain the lion's share of the Australian trade. In rye grass there is nothing doing, but the improved feeling in cocksfoot continues. Peas and beans are moving off very slowly, and it is somewhat strange that they have not participated in the improvement in oats. Potatoes have further advanced, and business Is now restricted owing to the firm stand taken up by growers. Merchants are prepared to pay the undernoted prices, . but hesitate to go any further now that they have reached dangerous limits. Butter and cheese are still neglected, and no change for better or worse has taken place. The raw cold wet weather of the past few weeks has at last broken up, and as the last two or three days have been favourable for work farmers are taking full advantage of the change.
