Lpress association telegram.] WELLINGTON, June 25. The Government received a message from Mongonui, stating that a whaleboat had been found in Tom Bowling Bay, near North Cape, containing carpenter's tools, lifebuoy, and provisions. Tne boat bears the name of H.M. Dart. It isf eared some accident may have happened to her during the recent rough weather. The Dart was re-com-missioned in March, and left Auckland on June the 6th for Sydney. Her Commission dates from March 16th, about which time she received her complement of officers as follows:—Lieut.-Commander Fredericks, Lieuts. Gedge and Somerville, Sub-Lieut. Webb; surgeon, Dr. McNab; Engineer Mabb, Paymaster Sullivan; crew, fortysix.
Further intelligence from Mongonui states that besides the Dart's boat a number of life belts have been picked up by Maoris along the coast. The Government have sent instructions for a. thorough search. Later. The Premier has received a telegram from the Governor of New South Wales, to the effect that Admiral Fairfax is of opinion that the boat belonging to H.M.s. Dart, found near North Cape, has probably been washed away. That lifebelts are generally carried in the boats ready for lowering. Vessels arriving at Sydney report very stormy weather, and the Dart could make little way against headwinds. The Admiral, therefore, apprehends no serious calamity. AUCKLAND, June 25. The Mongonui correspondent of the New Zealand Herald has telegraphed the news of the discovery of the Darf s boat in Tom Bowling's Bay, near North Cape, and seven large life belts about thirty miles further-westward, past Cape Maria Tan Diemen. The natives have charge of the boat, and the life belts are in possession of S. Yates, of Parengarenga. No further particulars have yet reached Auckland. The discovery was reported at Mongonui by Captain McLean of the s.s. Staffa.
